State-of-the-Art Commercial Laundry Facility

Hawkins Projects Ltd acted as Principal Contractor for the construction and internal reconfiguration of Johnson’s new 4,400 m² commercial laundry facility in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport. Working alongside specialist suppliers Kannegiesser and Clay & Abbott, the team delivered a technically demanding, fully operational industrial laundry within a live commissioning environment.

The project involved designing and installing a 2,800 m² mezzanine engineered for heavy-duty laundry equipment, complete with a full 60-minute fire-rated protection package. Hawkins also redeveloped the first-floor office and welfare areas, new driver facilities, and management offices and support rooms. These improvements modernised the workspace for more efficient office flow and operational needs.

Major groundworks and service installations were completed, including new underground drainage, reinforced machinery foundations, full lighting, fire alarms and evaporative cooling systems. External works provided perimeter fencing, safety barriers, line marking and wider infrastructure improvements to support safe and compliant logistics.

As Principal Contractor, Hawkins managed the full construction programme, health and safety, and coordination with all equipment suppliers to ensure seamless integration of complex M&E and production systems.

The result is a state-of-the-art laundry facility offering high production capacity, improved office and welfare spaces, robust fire-protected mezzanine structures, and fully integrated services tailored to Johnson’s operational needs.
