New Structural Steel Framework for Driving Range

Hawkins Steel Ltd were appointed by Building Services Midlands Ltd to deliver the structural steel framework for the new golf driving range development at Wychwood Golf Club in Oxfordshire. This ambitious project aimed to create a modern training facility that would expand the club’s offering and provide a high-quality environment for golfers of all abilities. Working within a live golf environment, the team transformed the design concept into a fully engineered and installed steel structure.
A full site survey was completed before fabrication, followed by detailed in-house fabrication drawings and workshop-made steelwork to ensure complete quality control. On-site, a setting-out engineer established all control points on the reinforced concrete slab to guarantee precise alignment during installation.

The main building measured 72 metres long with a 5.425-metre span, forming a galvanised steel portal frame supplied with cold-rolled Z-purlins and all required accessories. Hawkins Steel also designed, fabricated and installed an additional portal-frame building for the club’s new golf training area, providing extra covered coaching space.

Delivered on time and within budget, the project resulted in a strong, modern and high-quality facility that enhances Wychwood Golf Club’s facilities and provides an exciting new asset for players and visitors. The combination of precision engineering, efficient project delivery and close collaboration with the client ensured a highly successful outcome.
