British Cycling celebrates one year of the GBCT Wind Tunnel

It’s always good to see one of our completed projects a year down the line. This British Cycling wind tunnel in Manchester was developed and constructed by Hawkins Projects. This wind tunnel will play a vital role in supporting preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

British Cycling…

In a productive first year, the GBCT wind tunnel has hosted 121 rider positional sessions and 27 equipment development sessions, playing a huge factor in GBCT delivering record success in the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

The University of Manchester has successfully been onboarded, which will see the wind tunnel support wider research and innovation aspirations across the region, with four PhD research projects already underway. Six operators have been trained to run the wind tunnel and it has also been modified to support track, tandem, road and trike bikes and has been used by Para-athletics and Para-triathlon.

This continued innovation will play a vital part in supporting the Great Britain Cycling Team’s preparation for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as to LA 2028 and beyond.

It’s nice to think Hawkins will play a small part in our bid for British success in the next Olympics!
